Paramedic
Program Goal
The goal of the Paramedic program is to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.
Paramedics administer advanced life support care to sick or injured persons in prehospital settings. They assess the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures and perform emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures.
Once You Complete the Program
Paramedics with a degree in Emergency Medical Services often obtain leadership and management positions. Program graduates are eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians paramedic certification exam (NRP). Upon successful completion of this exam, graduates will be awarded the NRP credential and are eligible to apply for licensure with the State of Florida.
Getting Started
The Paramedic program is a selective-admissions program. Students are selected based on criteria outlined in the Paramedic Application Book.
Illicit drug use, background check, convictions and immunization status may prevent future employment. In addition, externship sites, employers, and regulations about drug use, criminal backgrounds, and immunization status.

Paramedic Program Information Presentation
Applying to the Paramedic Day Program
The application for the Fall 2025 program will be accepted starting January 6, 2025. The deadline to apply is June 27, 2025.
To begin the application process:
- For questions regarding the Paramedic program, contact Colleen Korpon from the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex at 772-462-7950.
- Complete and submit the IRSC Application for the Paramedic program (Pay the $30 non-refundable application fee.)
Licensure Requirements
ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ offers a number of different degrees and certificates leading to professional licensure in the state of Florida. Some professions require both a degree and the successful completion of additional criteria such as licensure exams, field placements, or clinical hours. Student eligibility to apply to sit for the Paramedic Certification in the State of Florida is defined in, F.S., 401.23 and also includes possession of a valid form of identification. Please visit the Florida Department of Health website to ensure your eligibility.
If you are a student who may choose to reside outside of Florida or one of the compact states after graduation, IRSC cannot confirm whether this degree program meets educational requirements for professional licensure/certification in your state. Some states have requirements in addition to the program’s curriculum. If you wish to take the National Registry of Emergency Paramedics (NR-P) exam in another state, contact the department of management systems in the state to determine whether this degree will meet their licensure requirements.
Completion of the Paramedic requirements makes you eligible to apply to take the National Registry of Emergency Paramedics (NR-P) exam in Florida.
